About the artist
Dulphe Pinheiro-Machado holds a MFA in Fine Arts from Pratt Institute, 2017, and a Masters degree in Political Science from UFRGS, Brazil. Pinheiro-Machado showed his work in solo exhibitions in Porto Alegre, Brazil and New York. He participated in collective shows in New York City, Portland and São Paulo. His video “Perceptual Epic” is part of the permanent rotation of the Video Wall at the IAC Headquarters in New York City. He also has developed an interactive installation called “All things you didn’t know about yourself” for the artist residency at the Laboratory for New Media of the Image and Sound Museum of São Paulo, Brazil.
Pinheiro-Machado makes paper objects, photographs, videos and installations inspired by the way memory can be built upon emotional images. He draws inspiration from cinema, assimilating techniques from the medium. He makes mapped video projections onto paper objects, projecting strangeness onto them. He uses simple elements like fruits to build a vocabulary of states of mind, capturing what he calls emotional perspective, when what we perceive is distorted by our feelings. In 2015 he was among the selected to develop a VR project at the Samsung Virtual Reality Lab. He was a fellow of the 2017 NYFA Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program for Visual Artists. He lives and works in Queens, New York.
